LUKAS-ERZETT GmbH and Co. The success story of the Engelskirchen-based family business, which spans over 85 years, began in the 1930s. Word quickly spread in the Oberberg region about the skill of the two founding brothers, Edmund and Willi Lukas, and the high quality and reliability of their products.
They gradually expanded their portfolio of tools. With their many innovative ideas, passion, and initially a good deal of local “roll-your-sleeves-up” attitude, the brothers built up an industrial company that operated far beyond its regional borders and soon entered the international market.

The LUKAS family comprises around 700 employees, who represent the company at its state-of-the-art production and sales locations in Germany, the Czech Republic and South Africa, and draws on an enormous wealth of experience accumulated by LUKAS experts over many years. Alongside the extremely stringent in-house safety and quality standards, the LUKAS quality management system is also certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, which ensures adherence to stable processes. This is accompanied by an energy management system in compliance with ISO 50001:2018, which guarantees a continual increase in energy efficiency levels.
LUKAS is dedicated to safety and quality: As an audited member of the Organization for the Safety of Abrasives (oSa), all of its grinding and abrasive cutting tools that bear the globally protected oSa trademark are manufactured in accordance with the organisation’s strict guidelines and undergo the highest-level safety tests. They therefore fulfil oSa’s globally applicable and highest safety standards.
LUKAS has also been awarded the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO).
LUKAS-ERZETT GmbH and Co KG is a member of FEPA (Federation of European Producers of Abrasives). Established in 1955, the federation also includes seven national associations and meanwhile has 220 members. Among other activities, FEPA issues its own standards, such as the European “FEPA F” standard which regulates the grit size of abrasive bodies.
In addition to these certifications, LUKAS is an active member of selected industry associations, including belonging to the inner circle of the Fachverband Werkzeugindustrie e. V., which, after thorough examination, authorises its members to bear the FWI seal “Deutsches Werkzeug – made in Germany”. Tools may only be labelled and advertised as being “Made in Germany” or “Germany” if all the quality-related work processes for their manufacture have taken place in Germany.
The LUKAS brand stands for agility, sustainability and reliability, and organises all its operational activities so that these values are upheld. In order to benefit from the greater planning security and reliability offered by short supply chains, LUKAS principally manufactures and trades “Made in Germany” or at least “near Germany”. The focus is clearly aimed at a holistic regional production strategy: Materials are also purchased from local and regional suppliers wherever possible. Supply chains benefit from greater reliability and planning assurance on account of the short transport routes as this makes them less dependent upon international air and sea transportation. Last but not least, this also enables LUKAS to cut down its CO₂ emissions to meet its own sustainability targets.
